Free Haven Forest School was founded in the fall of 2021. Its mission is to create a nature-based learning environment where children can explore their innate quest for knowledge through the outdoors. The school’s programs are taught from a Biblical-based Christian worldview, with a daily pledge that reflects core beliefs to be kind to ourselves, others, and God’s creation, and may include memorization of Bible verses, prayer before meals, and lessons rooted in character-building traits. The school follows a Reggio teaching philosophy that places great importance on the learning environment, and its programs take place during the school year and in the summer months in all weather.
The summer camp includes Sparrow Camp for ages 5–7, Falcon Camp for ages 8–12, and Preschool Chickadee Camp for ages 3.5–4. Free Haven Forest School is a non-visiting campus, and the school and property are private and not open to the public; interested families must schedule a formal tour through the website. When families complete the registration form, they must click the shopping cart in the top right corner to pay, and registration is not processed without payment. A full summer camp form must be filled out for each week of camp and one full form per child, and if a child is enrolled in multiple weeks, some lines that were previously filled out can be skipped.
Rachel is the Founder and Director of Free Haven Forest School. She started pursuing her degree in education at age 16, began her teaching career at age 20, and is pursuing a graduate degree in outdoor education with a planned graduation date of December 2022. The school was recently featured on ABC News. One parent shared, “I'm watching my child thrive at Free Haven! He loves to go to school now.”
