Kids Science Labs describes its mission as unlocking every child's curiosity through hands-on science, problem solving, and creative design, with the goal of enabling the next generation of innovators and creative thinkers to solve the problems of tomorrow. Programs are led by passionate teachers and designed by scientists, and teachers are described as trained scientists and educators who are trained in real-world science.
Kids Science Labs was founded in 2010 by Co-Founders Shegan Campbell and Keith Norsym, who obtained engineering and advanced science degrees from Stanford University, the University of Michigan, the University of Illinois, and the University of Chicago. The organization describes itself as having over 15 years of proven success and notes that it has expanded from a single Chicago center since 2010.
The program offers hands-on STEM programs designed to ignite children’s natural curiosity, including award-winning summer camps with weekly themes that turn scientific questions into learning adventures, and unforgettable science birthday parties with experiments such as custom slime, fizzing reactions, and safe chemical fun. Kids Science Labs also offers STEM activities such as in-school STEM labs, hands-on workshops, field trips, and mobile programs and in-school workshops described as STEM Labs & Field Trips. Its PowerScience curriculum is described as exceeding national standards for hands-on science education, and programs for kids ages 4–12 and a Pre-K PowerScience Program for curious 2–6 year olds are listed, along with After School Programs and Pre-K Science Classes described as “Coming Soon.”
Kids Science Labs partners with schools nationwide through in-school STEM labs, hands-on workshops for schools, homeschool groups, and community organizations, and field trips. Its programs are described as award-winning, recognized for excellence in STEM education, and recognized as the top choice for science enrichment by parents across the U.S., ranked #1 by parents in every city it serves for STEM summer camps, and as one of the most trusted science enrichment brands for children in the United States, with hundreds of five-star reviews and national recognition.
Parents describe their experiences with Kids Science Labs in several testimonials. One parent shared that after class, their son walked around the house exploring what materials were permeable and that he really understands the concepts and applies them. Another parent described Kids Science Labs as one of the best investments they have made for their child, noting mind-blowing creativity and retention after every class and that instructors care deeply and focus on teaching at the child’s level. Other parents report that their children love their teachers and projects and are learning topics from gravity to viscosity, that their child was excited for volcano week and talked about exploding a volcano while learning real science in a way kids understand and get excited about, and that their “little scientists” are engaged, love their teachers, and cannot stop talking about their projects.
