The NSYMCA Gymnastics Program offers gymnastics classes and open gym time for children. Participants take part in structured gymnastics activities and can also attend open gym sessions. Open Gym is held on Saturdays.

• Ages: 2–13 years old
• Schedule: Open Gym is on Saturdays.

The NSYMCA Gymnastics Program is led by the Director of Sports & Gymnastics, Kelly Rao. The program is a USA Gymnastics Member Club. The NSYMCA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, open and accessible for all.

The program teaches the Core Values of Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Honesty, and Team Work. It focuses on developing athletes to their fullest potential through individualized coaching approaches. The Pre-K Gymnastics Program is described as creating a warm and inviting environment for children from toddlers through kindergarten and caters to overall development, setting children on a path for success in and out of the gym. The Youth Program is for gymnasts in 1st–8th grade to learn skills and progress at their own rate in a supportive and encouraging environment. The Competitive Gymnastics Program focuses on developing the foundation for strong communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Initial placement into the competitive program is done by coach evaluation and recommendation. For mobility within the competitive program, gymnasts must try out each year. Tryouts for Pre-Team Bronze and Competitive Team are held in the spring and during summer gymnastics camp.

The Gymnastics Spring Show is scheduled for May 17, 2026, in the NSYMCA Main Gymnasium. The Spring Show celebrates the hard work and progress of gymnasts from preschool through competitive team, and families and friends are invited to cheer on athletes at the event.

Tiny Tumblers are instructed to wear active clothing or a gymnastics leotard, with long hair pulled away from the face. Progressive gymnasts are recommended to wear a leotard to class, may wear shorts over their leotards, and must have long hair pulled away from the face. Boys are instructed to wear athletic clothing that allows for a range of motion in the shoulders and hips. Pre-Team and Competitive Team gymnasts are required to wear a leotard for practice, may wear form-fitting shorts or leggings over their leotard, must have hair pulled away from the face, and should limit jewelry. Gymnasts are recommended to bring water bottles to practice, and other sports drinks, juices, and snacks are prohibited during practice.

The mission of the NSYMCA is to provide individuals in Northbrook and the surrounding areas with programs and tools that will help them become healthier, more connected and confident. The organization states that lasting personal and social change can only come about when everyone works together to invest in the community and each other. It reports working side-by-side with neighbors throughout 15 surrounding communities to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
