About

HISRA Camps include Camp Free to Be, Summer Daze, and Bicycle Brews Transitional Crew, each offering different summer activities. Camp Free to Be provides adventurous and fun activities for campers with multiple and/or severe disabilities and runs for eight weeks throughout the summer. Summer Daze offers teen summer activities that are community based, with community outing options and frequent outdoor activities, and includes vocational and job skills training. Bicycle Brews Transitional Crew focuses on teaching fundamental employment skills and specific skills needed to be employed in a coffee shop environment. HISRA’s professional staff work to integrate participants into programs, adapt activities in inclusion services, and provide additional support if appropriate to create an inclusive setting and experience.

• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Camp Free to Be runs for eight weeks throughout the summer; Summer Daze and Bicycle Brews Transitional Crew each require a minimum registration of six weeks

All campers need to bring a sack lunch and drink daily for Camp Free to Be, and Summer Daze campers are also required to bring a sack lunch and drink each day.

The Heart of Illinois Special Recreation Association (HISRA) is the result of a desire on the part of the Chillicothe, Morton, Peoria, and Washington park districts to provide quality recreation programs and services to individuals with disabilities and special needs. HISRA and its member districts support the spirit and intent of the Americans With Disabilities Act and are committed to providing opportunities for each individual to enjoy recreation activities in the least restrictive environment possible. HISRA provides inclusion services at no cost to residents of its member districts, and HISRA’s professional staff adapt activities and provide additional support if appropriate. Parents and guardians of Peoria residents can utilize CityLift at 497-3340, Peoria County residents can utilize Rural Peoria County Transportation at 697-3305, and Morton residents can utilize We Care Inc. at 253-7708, with parents responsible for coordination and fees associated with using these transportation companies.
