Founded in 2009, Plainfield Saints Youth Football and Cheer offers instructional and competitive programs that focus on fundamentals, safety, and academics. The program’s mission is to introduce young athletes to football and cheer, spread the love for the sport, develop sportsmanship and strong work ethic, and prepare participants to compete at an elite level when they enter high school. The organization states that its youth football program is organized, supervised, safety-orientated and educational, and that it goes beyond teaching game fundamentals by also teaching the importance of scholastics in the sport and in everyday life. It serves athletes from Plainfield, Naperville, Joliet, Aurora, Oswego, and surrounding areas, and offers D1, D2, and D3 teams (also called Red, White, and Blue teams) in each age group.
Red teams (ages 8–13) are the most competitive level and are eligible to play for a Chicagoland State Championship with an optional pathway to Regionals and Nationals. White teams (ages 8–13) are the second most competitive level and are eligible to play for a Chicagoland State Championship, without Regionals or Nationals. Blue teams (ages 6–13) are the developmental level where children learn basic fundamentals and principles of football along with core values of teamwork and sportsmanship, and Blue teams are eligible to play post-season bowl games only. The game schedule is typically 8 games, with one game each weekend beginning the last weekend of August, usually 4 home games and 4 away games, and away games can be anywhere in the Chicagoland Pop Warner conference with scheduling determined by Pop Warner.
The first week of football practice is important because players must complete 10 hours of conditioning and fundamentals practice before they can practice full contact. Registration for the 2026 football and cheer season opens February 1st, 2026, and closes June 1st, 2026. All tackle football players must attend a uniform and equipment fitting date to be fitted for a helmet and shoulder pads, be weighed to determine jersey size, and request jersey numbers, and all registration fees must be paid in full for athletes to participate in practice.
The registration fee covers insurance, field rental, a helmet and shoulder pads as seasonal rentals, two pairs of socks (game socks and breast cancer awareness socks), a reversible game jersey with the player’s last name printed on the back, and 15 raffle tickets at $10 each that the player can sell and keep the $150 to offset the registration fee. All rental equipment must be returned at the end of the season, while jerseys and socks are kept by the player. Parents are responsible for providing a chin strap, mouth guard, practice jersey, practice pants or game pants, and football cleats.
Plainfield Saints Youth Football and Cheer is a member of Pop Warner, which it describes as the nation’s largest and oldest youth football and youth cheerleading organization with over 425,000 participants in 44 states and six countries. As a partner with Heads Up Football, the program states that safety is a central part of the game. All coaches are certified by USA Football, Pop Warner, and YCADA for cheer. The organization notes that Pop Warner Little Scholars is the only national youth sports organization in America that requires its participants to perform adequately in the classroom before permitting them to play. The Saints state that all instructional and competitive programs focus on fundamentals, safety, and academics, that they aim to create high-character citizens and future leaders by teaching fundamentals of football, cheer, and life lessons, and that “Our Youth Determine Our Future!”
