The Quincy Art Center is a not-profit art museum that has celebrated visual arts since 1923, beginning on January 23, 1923, when a group of local women created the Quincy Art Club. Its mission is to connect people to the power of art by creating opportunities to experience, make, and share art, and all exhibits are free and open to the public with no membership required to come to the Art Center. The Art Center’s Permanent Collection holds more than 400 artworks by regional and national artists, and the new addition designed by Architechnics, Inc. gave the Center more than twice its original exhibition space.

The 52nd Annual High School Student Art Competition is a juried exhibition with a $15 non-refundable entry fee and is described as being designed to teach students how to professionally enter and display artwork. Community involvement includes support from membership fees, contributions, grants, proceeds from fundraising events, and Community Partners.

Leadership roles at the Art Center have included Director of Education Rachel Roundtree; Executive Director and Curator (until 2014) Jennifer Teter; Executive Director (hired in 2024) Sandra Hite; first professional director (hired in 1969) John Arthur; professional director (from 1991) Mariann Barnard; and professional director (from 1994) Julie D. Nelson. The Art Center and its employees reserve the right to remove participants from classes in cases of disruptive behavior, repeated insubordination toward a teacher or student, or other forms of misbehavior that negatively impact the classroom experience, and if 75% or more of the class has been completed when a student is removed, no refund will be issued.

By registering for class, participants grant full permission to the Art Center to use their or their child’s photograph, name, and/or likeness in publication or advertising materials unless notice is submitted in writing before the first class, and if consent for photo use is not given, notice must be submitted in writing to the Art Center before the first class.
