Children’s Theatre of Elgin (CTE) was founded in 1988, and Fox Valley Theatre Company (FVTC) was added as a CTE subsidiary in 1993. CTE/FVTC is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization in-residence at the Elgin Community College Arts Center. CTE produces two large-scale shows each year at Hemmens Cultural Center, and cast sizes can often exceed 100. Over the years, more than 10,000 cast members have performed for audiences of almost 400,000 people since 1988, and the company has provided performance opportunities to over 10,000 young people. FOX VALLEY THEATRE COMPANY presents a full-length Broadway-type musical each year along with a straight play at the Elgin Community College Arts Center, and the two troupes combine whenever a script calls for it.

Children’s Theatre of Elgin/Fox Valley Theatre Company states that it is a place where all individuals have an equitable opportunity to learn, grow, and enrich their lives through theatre. The organization is based in Elgin, Illinois, is in-residence at the Elgin Community College Arts Center, and has toured to southern Illinois, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Hawaii, where it helped establish a children’s theatre troupe on the island of Oahu. Its credentials and recognition include the Illinois Community Education Association Award in 1991, being named one of 150 Things that Make Elgin Great in 2004, being listed among favorite destinations in the book Kids Love Illinois in 2006, and receiving an Elgin Image Award in 2007 for helping promote a positive impression of Elgin.

The workshop cancellation and refund policy includes full refunds up to 24 hours before the class begins and 75% refunds within five days of the class, minus any credit card fees. If Children’s Theatre of Elgin cancels a workshop, parents are notified by email with a rescheduled date and time and receive a full refund of fees, minus credit card fees, if the student is unable to attend. Testimonials from a cast parent, a teacher, and an audience member describe positive, supportive experiences and strong reactions to the shows.
