Springfield Shock Volleyball Club is led by Club Owner Bruce Wible and Club Director John Komnick. The club began in 2010 as a concept from a locally run developmental club in Athens, with mostly regional teams and about 30–50 girls in the club, and after John Komnick joined in 2014, it grew to over 300 players and 30 teams traveling the Midwest and nationally. The club states a mission of being a very competitive club with family values and a drive to improve each individual player as well as the teams, with core standards and values of Family and Faith, commitment to the team and teammates, and commitment to growth as a player in a competitive atmosphere with hard work, hustle, dedication to the process, and a strong, talented coaching staff.

Springfield Shock Volleyball Club is described as one of the fastest growing programs in the Midwest and a competitive junior high and high school age traveling club program in central Illinois. It trains girls to compete throughout the Midwest with top teams competing on the national level, and it also offers training opportunities for male players and trains boys from the area to compete against other elite teams from Illinois and surrounding states. The club reports placement of several girls in the collegiate ranks and maintains a Shock College Commits list that includes players such as Jordan Watts (’22, Blackburn College) and Jenna Blankenship (’22, Mitchell College). The program notes that “Shock builds talent” and “Shock competes every day” and has expanded into a new facility called “The Gym.”
