Summer Art Camp includes both in-person Summer Camp and Online Summer Camp options. Online Summer Camp runs June 1 through July 24, with camp spots still available.
• Ages: 4–17 years old
• Schedule: Weeklong camps running Monday–Friday between June 1 and July 24, 2026
Summer Camp 2026 will run from June 1st through July 24th, with camps offered in weeklong sessions from Monday through Friday on the week a family chooses, unless otherwise stated. Camp age groups are based on the grade a child will be going into in Fall 2026. Due to staff shortages for Summer 2026, children are not able to stay unattended over the lunch hour between morning and afternoon camps.
The Springfield Art Association leads Summer Art Camp as part of its work as a community-based, non-profit organization that promotes and supports the visual arts, provides art education opportunities for the greater Springfield area, and preserves and interprets historic Edwards Place and the collections of the SAA. The Springfield Art Association is committed to fostering community awareness and participation in the visual arts. SAA is a non profit tax exempt organization organized pursuant to IRS code 501(c)(3). This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, and the Springfield Art Association of Edwards Place acknowledges support from the Illinois Arts Council.
The organization’s leadership team includes Executive Director Betsy Dollar, Curator of Collections & Interpretation Sarah Adams, Education Director Maggie Packman, Director of Operations & Development Ally Sharpe, Collective Director & Librarian Barbie LaFrance, Administrative Assistant & Metals Instructor Kaye Demlow, 2D Studio Manager Ashlynn Frey, Ceramics Studio Manager Mary Rhein, Glass Studio Manager Mario Clarke, and 2D Instructor Kate Atkinson. The Springfield “Amateur Art Study Club” was formed in 1909, and the Springfield Art Club was incorporated on September 30, 1913, securing a charter from the State of Illinois. Over the years, the organization has added facilities including the Condell Studio of Art in 1949, an addition to the Condell Studio in 1963, a ceramics lab annex in 1991, a gallery expansion in 1968, and the Michael Victor II Art Library and current offices in 1978. The Prairie Art Alliance merged with the Springfield Art Association in January 2016; it began as the Prairie Art Alliance in 1979, incorporated as a nonprofit in 1985, changed its name in 1995, opened a gallery and classroom on the Springfield Art Association grounds in 1996, and moved its gallery to downtown Springfield in 2004, where it is now run out of a storefront in the historic Broadwell Pharmacy building.
