Since 1977, Fox Valley Christian Action (also known as Riverwoods) has served children and families living in low-income communities of the Fox Valley by providing day camps and later overnight camping experiences for children and teenagers at no cost to their families. FVCA Summer Programs include free day camps for 1st–6th grade campers with five days of activities, Bible teachings, and lunch, as well as a traditional overnight camp experience for 1st–6th grade campers for 6 days and 5 nights, with transportation to and from camp provided by FVCA buses. The mission of Fox Valley Christian Action is to partner with the local Church in discipling people in the under-resourced communities of the Fox River Valley into a life-transforming relationship with Jesus Christ.

All FVCA staff are at least 16 years old and most are 18 or older, and the program operates in small groups, usually no more than seven kids per staff member, with staff members never alone with an individual child. Designated staff members have been certified in First Aid and CPR, and practical safety measures include wearing helmets when riding bikes and wearing life jackets anytime in a boat. FVCA notes a commitment to health and safety regarding Covid-19, including daily health screenings for all staff and campers, regular hand sanitizing, masking, proper social distancing for all activities, and consistent sanitizing of vehicles and facilities. FVCA Summer Programs are an equal opportunity provider, and FVCA is accredited by the American Camp Association.
