About
Junior Golf Programs offers junior group golf lessons and a Junior Golf Summer Series that include instruction in the basic rules of golf, golf etiquette, grip, posture, chipping, putting, and full swing. The program also covers how to practice effectively, building good habits on and off the course, and an introduction to mental game concepts to strengthen focus and improve consistency.
• Ages: 7–18 years old
• Schedule: Junior Group Golf Lessons meet in four-day sessions, Monday–Thursday, with each class one hour in length; Junior Golf Summer Series meets in three one-hour classes held over one week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
• Price: $100 per student for Junior Group Golf Lessons (ages 7–15, 8 students per class); $100 per student for Junior Golf Summer Series (ages 9–17, 6 students per class).
Junior Group Golf Lessons require each participant to bring their own equipment and to have at least a putter, iron, and wood. Junior Golf Summer Series also requires participants to bring their own equipment and encourages completion of Junior Group Golf Lessons before registering. Friday is used as a make-up day if a Junior Group Golf Lesson class is cancelled due to weather, and no refunds are given within one week of the start of class for either Junior Group Golf Lessons or Junior Golf Summer Series.
Lessons in Junior Golf Programs are offered by PGA Professionals who are associated with the Professional Golfers Association of America (PGA). The leadership team includes golf professionals and instructors Andrew Ogata, Matt Nations, and Keaton Burress, with Kim Prazak as the contact for class changes or refunds.
Arrowhead Golf Club, where Junior Golf Programs are based, has a learning center that opened in 1990 as part of a renovation of the East Course, and the West Course was completed in 2001. The facility history includes the original 18-hole Antlers Club built in the 1920s, a name change to Arrowhead Golf Club in 1929, expansion to 27 holes with the West Course in 1967, and purchase by the Wheaton Park District in 1982. Arrowhead is rated as one of America's 25 best all-around golf experiences, has been voted one of the Best Driving Ranges in Chicago by Chicago Golf Report, and has been featured in Chicago District Golfer's “Chicago's Best 19 Holes.” Arrowhead Golf Club has received recertification and designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, recognizing environmental planning, wildlife and habitat management, outreach and education, chemical use reduction and safety, water conservation, and water quality management.
Testimonials describe Arrowhead as a nicely maintained course with a unique 27-hole layout, a facility with the feel of a private course, and one of the top golf driving ranges and practice facilities in the Chicagoland area. Public golfers have described the course design as captivating, challenging, and thoughtful, and one group has identified it as their favorite golf outing.
