About
Katsumi's Teaching Kitchen offers hands-on cooking classes that focus on Japanese dishes such as Intro to Sushi, Japanese Street Food, Ramen Noodle Set, Katsu Curry, Potstickers, Bento, and a dumpling class. Classes include activities like sushi making, ramen sets, curry, bento, potstickers, and other Japanese homestyle cooking. Participants eat everything they make in class.
• Schedule: Classes usually run between 2 and 2.5 hours long
Katsumi's Teaching Kitchen specializes in Japanese cuisine, culture, and history, with a focus on Japanese homestyle cooking. The program offers customizable class subjects, and on-location classes are available when the host provides a space with an outlet. Special needs such as vegetarian diets or allergies need to be communicated before class, and gift coupons are available for any class.
The program is led by Mori Lemau, who was a Japanese language teacher by trade, and experienced chefs work with students to teach Japanese culinary techniques. Katsumi's Teaching Kitchen was founded on March 15, 2015. A private chef service is available in Indianapolis and Beech Grove, Indiana, with an expert in Japanese cuisine who can prepare food for groups and work with clients to create a menu and plan enough food for events.
One testimonial from Daisy Brey notes learning about the basics of Japanese cooking and sushi making and noticing how the quality of rice affected the taste of the food. Jason Wright describes the experience as one he recommends to everyone, mentioning the food and the fun. Clemente Castillo shares that a family dumpling class was “amazing” and describes Mori as very knowledgeable, with everything turning out “incredible.”
