About

Art Lessons and Workshops for Kids offers after-school in-person art classes, art workshops, private lessons, and guided art projects. The program includes Event Workshops, Project-focused Workshops, and Technique-focused Workshops for kids who want to work on specific themes or art skills.

• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Fall 2025 classes with weekly options; workshops meet weekly for 3–8 weeks, and Technique-focused Workshops meet weekly for 4–8 weeks

The program is led by Teaching Artist Hilary Cannon Anderson, who is both a Fiber Artist and a Teacher and continues to create her own artwork while teaching. Art Workshops focus on a specific theme or art skill over several weeks and include a series of 1–5 projects, and workshops are described as a way to sample different themes or art skills. Event Workshops offer a guided art project for occasions such as birthday parties, holiday parties, family reunions, team parties, or other events. Project-focused Workshops lead students through a series of projects related to a theme, beginning with discussion of artwork or a book, followed by brainstorming and skill-building activities, with intermediate projects completed over multiple sessions and projects that build on one another and become more complex and layered, ending with a final project that applies new skills and incorporates students’ own interests and passions. Technique-focused Workshops build specific techniques by progressing through a series of projects, with discussion of artwork introducing each new skill, step-by-step skill learning through intermediate projects, and a final project that pulls all the skills and elements together and provides the greatest opportunity for including students’ own interests and ideas. If the workshops do not meet a student’s needs or interests, the instructor works with families to determine artistic interests and needs and then tailors ongoing lessons, continually consulting to decide on next themes and skills as projects are planned. Families can invite up to four friends to Private or Small Group Lessons. All classes are held in a teaching studio that can extend onto the driveway on warm days.
