About

Pictura Kids is a free, monthly art education series where kids take part in workshops, crafts, children’s exhibits, and guided art projects that connect to the current exhibition in Pictura Gallery. Past sessions have included activities such as Perspective Drawing and a program called Land of Lines, as well as a February workshop focused on the work of Viktoria Sorochinksi.

• Ages: 4–12 years old
• Schedule: Monthly workshops on the first Saturday at 11:00am, typically running from 11:00am to 12:00pm
• Price: Pictura Kids is free

Pictura Kids workshops occur every first Saturday at 11:00am following a Gallery Walk First Friday. Registration is required, and workshops are described as ideal for ages 6 and up, or ages 4 and up with a caregiver.

Pictura Kids is part of the children’s programming at the FAR Center for Contemporary Arts, which offers workshops, crafts, and children’s exhibits, all free to the public. The program’s stated goal is to make contemporary photography more accessible to a young audience by giving them time and space with the work, teaching them about the exhibiting artist, and giving them a chance to respond through conversation and guided art projects.

Martha Moore, a long-time Bloomington resident and mother of three, brings decades of experience in elementary and secondary education into her role with Pictura Kids. The broader leadership team connected to the FAR Center and Pictura Gallery includes founders David Moore and Martha Moore, director Lauren Kniss, co-curators Lisa Woodward and Mia Dalglish, creative director Daniela Panigada, wedding and events director Silvia Panigada, event coordinator Elizabeth Elich, wedding and event coordinator Adara Duncan, and building manager Montana Watson.

The FAR Center for Contemporary Arts was created in 2018, and Pictura Gallery was established in 2008. The FAR Center states that it brings together photographers, poets, sculptors, illustrators, musicians, painters, and dancers in a multi-use space where the arts are shared and taught through exhibits, lectures, workshops, and performances.
