Kid City Summer Camp states its mission as “We give every child a summer to remember!” Camp staff are described as enthusiastic, well-trained adults, and all staff are CPR and First Aid certified and follow professional standards set by the American Camp Association and the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department. All Kid City Original and Quest programs are accredited by the American Camp Association, which focuses on program quality and health and safety issues and requires the camp to review every part of its operation.
Staff-to-camper ratios are 1:6 for kindergarten, 1:8 for grades 1–4, and 1:10 for Kid City Quest. Quest campers take part in activities separate from younger Kid City Original campers, and space is set aside for Quest campers to spend time with friends. The camp is inclusive and serves children with and without disabilities, with inclusion services available for accommodation needs and support options, and reasonable accommodation requests and registration must be made at least two weeks before the registration deadline.
Camp offers a break from technology and replaces it with participation in the community. Parents are responsible for transporting their children to and from camp each day, and once at camp, city buses and passenger vans are used for field trips that are not within walking distance, with only trained, licensed drivers transporting campers. Only campers enrolled for at least one week of Kid City or Quest Summer Camp are eligible to attend the All Camp Parent Night Out and the All Camp Overnight. Families are asked to send a sack lunch and water bottle, a swimsuit and towel, and any special sunscreen, bug spray, or medications.
