The YMCA of Monroe County states its mission as putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. The YMCA of Monroe County is a charitable organization with an inclusive environment committed to enriching the quality of family, spiritual, social, mental and physical well-being, and it works side by side with neighbors so that people of all ages, incomes, and backgrounds can learn, grow, and thrive. One membership includes access to both Southeast and Northwest YMCA branches, and the Y Fieldhouse was originally built in 2012 as the Gymnastics Center and later converted into a state-of-the-art indoor baseball facility that continues to host select Y programs and Sports Camps. Camp Counselors are needed for multiple age groups, including Preschool (ages 3–5), Elementary (ages 6–8), and Upper Elementary/Teen (ages 9–13).

The Aquatics Director position connected with YMCA aquatics programming requires a bachelor’s degree, current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, and CPR/AED and First Aid certifications maintained during employment, with a minimum of 2 years of related aquatics experience preferred. The Aquatics Director must also be proficient in Microsoft Office, able to quickly learn other software programs, and is required to secure the Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification within the first year of employment.

YMCA members and participants describe their experiences in several ways. One Y member and former Y Financial Assistance recipient, Mary Grogan, states that she has enjoyed personal friendships and good health through the Y. Healthy Hearts & Active Lives participants Vera and Bill Weber describe the staff as treating every person with dignity, respect, and professional competence. Personal training client Lisa Townsend notes that her trainer Darren varies her workouts and that she feels stronger and more confident. Deep Water Aqua Fit participant Judy Schroeder describes Aqua Fit as including a supportive community. Building Better Balance and Moving for a Healthier You participant Ellie O’Connor, age 72, reports feeling better than ever when it comes to moving after taking those programs.
