The YMCA of Monroe County states its mission as putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. The organization is described as a charitable organization with an inclusive environment committed to enriching the quality of family, spiritual, social, mental, and physical well-being, and it notes that it works with neighbors so that people of all ages, incomes, and backgrounds can learn, grow, and thrive. It also notes that it has different funds that allow donors to designate how gifts will affect the community and that it offers financial assistance, as referenced by a former Y Financial Assistance recipient.

The Aquatics Director position connected with these programs requires a bachelor’s degree, CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, and current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, with Lifeguard Instructor certification required within the first year of employment. The Aquatics Director reports to the Chief Operating Officer and provides guidance and direction to the Tiger Shark Swim Coach, while the Day Camp Counselor reports to the Youth and Family Program Coordinator. The YMCA Fieldhouse, which continues to host select Y programs and Sports Camps, was originally built in 2012 as the Gymnastics Center and is described as a state-of-the-art indoor baseball facility.

Member and participant testimonials describe experiences with YMCA programs such as personal training, Deep Water Aqua Fit, Moving for a Healthier You, and Building Better Balance, as well as the impact of financial assistance and staff interactions.
