About

Carmel Swim Academy Swim Lessons offers swim lessons that focus on swimming and learning safety through the four competitive strokes. The program uses a proprietary curriculum, and swimmers are grouped by age and ability with introductory, intermediate, and advanced classes for every age. Swim lessons use the same common language as Carmel Swim Club’s competitive team and are connected to Carmel Swim Club for a smooth transition to club, if desired.

Carmel Swim Academy Swim Lessons is part of the larger Carmel Swim Club organization and benefits from the Olympic-level expertise of its competitive team. The program is grounded in the mission of creating a safer, healthier, and stronger community through swimming, and in the idea that swimming is for everyone and everyone belongs at Carmel Swim Academy. CSA is not a franchised business; it is a hometown swim school built by five decades of experience at all levels of swimming and offers a proven pathway for learning to swim safely and effectively while staying connected with the water at every stage of life. Carmel Swim Academy is led by CEO and Head Coach Chris Plumb, who has coached at the highest levels of the sport and served on Team USA’s staff at the 2024 Olympic Games, along with Senior Director Nicole Stein, Director of Business Development Maggie Mestrich, and Aquatics Director Brittany Van Meter.

Carmel Swim Academy Swim Lessons takes place at Carmel Swim Academy, which is described as a welcoming facility that offers exceptional programs for every member of the family and offers exceptional programming for all ages and abilities. Carmel Swim Academy is part of the broader Carmel Swim Club community involvement efforts and benefits from the Olympic-level expertise of its competitive team.

Parent testimonials describe small class sizes, low instructor-to-child ratios, and more time in the water, as well as flexible scheduling and a simple process to make up classes. Parents report that their children have progressed from being scared of water to swimming short distances, have become more confident swimmers, and in some cases have moved on to Carmel Swim Club. Several parents compare Carmel Swim Academy favorably to other local or franchised swim schools and mention monthly progress reports, friendly staff, and instructors who focus on teaching the right techniques from the beginning.

The program information also notes that participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children aged one to four years, and that more than 8,700 children visited an emergency room for a drowning event in 2017.
