Culver campers develop positive self-esteem through accomplishment and discipline, and Culver Summer Schools & Camps emphasizes building self-confidence and learning the importance of followership before leadership. Culver provides a strong focus on the development of leadership skills, including courtesy, personal organization, and the ability to make well-thought-out choices, and is rooted in values and virtues described as character in action, citizenship at play, and leadership lived together, side by side.

Culver Academies was established in 1894 and has taught horsemanship since 1897, and its horsemanship program equestrians have made 18 presidential inaugural appearances. Culver is values-based and mission-driven and honors Henry Harrison Culver’s vision, and is steeped in a rich history of tradition, some of which date back over 100 years. Culver’s mission states that it educates its students for leadership and responsible citizenship in society by developing and nurturing the whole individual – mind, spirit, and body – through integrated programs that emphasize the cultivation of character. Culver offers five Distinguished Merit Scholarships, and offers a co-educational, residential experience beyond that of the typical boarding school for students in grades 9–12. Culver Military Academy is described as a military high school in Indiana and offers 16 weeks of leadership education for new cadets, 223 hands-on CMA student leadership positions, 200 hours of leadership instruction by senior year, and 1,500 hours of hands-on leadership practice.
