Conner Prairie Camps and Youth Programs take place within a living history museum that offers interactive, immersive, and hands-on experiences across its grounds. Participants may spend time in areas such as 1836 Prairietown, Treetop Outpost, Promised Land as Proving Ground, 1859 Balloon Voyage, Animal Encounters, Ag Adventures, the Playground, Trails at Conner Prairie, Lenape Camp, and the River Crossing Splash Pad. Conner Prairie is described as a place of “doing,” with experiences spread across 1,046 acres and recognized as one of the region’s premier living history museums and one of the most visited outdoor museums in the nation.

Conner Prairie states that it is a unique historic place that inspires curiosity and fosters learning by providing engaging and individualized experiences for everyone. It is Indiana’s first Smithsonian affiliate and has held this affiliation since 2008. Conner Prairie has earned the Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid’s GuideStar and has received multiple awards, including the 2026 Indiana Tourism Association Award for Best New Experience for Promised Land as Proving Ground, the 2025 PRSA Hoosier Chapter Award of Honor for the Headless Horseman Campaign, and 2023 reaccreditation from the American Alliance of Museums. Additional recognition includes Midwest Living’s Best of the Midwest 2022: Best Historical Site, the Indianapolis Star Official Community Choice Awards 2020 for Best Historical Site and Best Summer Camp, and the 2010 National Medal from the Institute for Museum and Library Services. Conner Prairie has also been named a Site of Conscience by the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience and was identified in 2013 as one of six Magnetic Museums in the country and one of the top five most visited outdoor museums in the United States. Community involvement includes recognition by Fishers City Council with the Life Without Limits Award for support of diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion, the CICOA Aging and In-Home Solutions 2019 Partner Award, and ongoing connection with the Smithsonian through its affiliate status.
