About

Trail Life USA is a church-based, outdoor-focused program where boys take part in activities such as camping, hiking, fishing, riflery, archery, and canoeing. Boys are engaged in a Troop setting by male mentors in a structured, hands-on, Christ-centered program that is established on timeless values derived from the Bible. The program is undergirded by biblical values, unapologetically reflects a Christian worldview, and is set in the context of outdoor adventure.

Trail Life USA describes its mission as guiding generations of courageous young men to honor God, lead with integrity, serve others, and experience outdoor adventure. Local churches own and direct Troops, and trained, equipped, and vetted men lead boys weekly in a male-centric environment. The program includes a robust awards program that offers physical, mental, and spiritual challenges and victory, and uses a Patrol Method where boys lead boys with increasing responsibility and decision-making authority as they mature. Trail Life USA states that it is character-focused rather than awards-focused, and that it is debt averse and member dependent.

Trail Life USA notes that membership has youth, young adult, and adult classifications, with youth membership open to all boys at least 5 years old and less than 18 years of age, young adult membership open to men and women who are at least 18 years old and have not reached their 21st birthday, and adult membership open to men and women 21 years of age or older. All members must honor their God-given identity revealed in their biological sex by presenting as and living consistent with that sex. A Trail Life troop in Oklahoma has served the local community as it recovered from a devastating tornado.

Supporters have described Trail Life USA in various ways. Dr. James Dobson has called it “a great outdoor adventure program for boys and young men.” Franklin Graham has described it as “a great Christian organization that helps develop character and leadership in boys and young men.” Jim Daly has called it “a phenomenal scouting alternative” and strongly recommends checking it out. Patti Garibay has said that Trail Life USA is “the perfect bookend to the AHG ministry.” Mike Huckabee has said that Trail Life USA “will be transformative for millions of young men over coming generations.” Eric Metaxas has said, “We need Trail Life USA in every community in America. There is nothing like it. They are doing heroic work. If you care about boys, start a Trail Life Troop!” Dennis Rainey has said he is “bullish on Trail Life USA and its mission of building boys so we don’t have to mend them as men.” Jack Hibbs has said that Trail Life gives structure to families and encourages churches to open their doors to Trail Life. Kirk Cameron has said he cannot encourage people strongly enough to consider talking with their church about starting a Trail Life ministry. Alex and Stephen Kendrick have said they believe in the vision of Trail Life USA and are excited about what the organization stands for. Nick Freitas has emphasized the importance of earned accomplishment in Trail Life USA. Troopmaster Clint has described starting Trail Life at his church so that boys can learn about their Creator, his creation, and their role in it.
