About
Barn RATS Summer Camp takes place at THE MUD CREEK BARN THEATER, which hosts indoor main-stage shows and outdoor events. The camp is connected with The Mud Creek Players, a volunteer organization where members can participate on stage or behind the scenes as artists, craftsmen, designers, crew members, and performance night volunteers.
• Price: The recommended donation for Pay-What-You-Want performances is $5–20 per person, but the theater will accept $1. Member families receive a discount on Barn RATS summer camp programs for their children or grandchildren.
The Mud Creek Players has been in operation in the Mud Creek Valley since 1950. The organization states that its mission is to provide quality theatrical experiences to the community and notes that it does more than put on plays. It has been featured in a recent ApartmentGuide article about hidden gems in Indianapolis.
The group also works together to enhance the community in various ways and to provide a cultural center for neighbors and residents of Indy's Lawrence Township and Geist communities. Members and member families pay yearly dues, currently $30 for adults over 25, agree to help plan at least one member social event per season, and attend social events such as pitch-ins, parties, group outings, and game nights.
The theater maintains what it describes as the longest running community theater and theatrical troupe in Indianapolis. Parking is free, and concessions such as candy, cookies, popcorn, sodas, water, and coffee are typically sold at shows. Families are welcome to bring their own travel mugs and snacks, and they may bring a picnic basket to outdoor events. Doors typically open 30 minutes before the curtain, with indoor main-stage shows generally starting Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm and Sunday matinees at 2:30 pm, while outdoor event times vary based on the time of year.
