About

Dyslexia Institute of Indiana Tutoring offers 1:1 Orton-Gillingham tutoring, both online and in person, along with diagnostic, multisensory, and direct instruction in phonics using the Orton-Gillingham approach. The program also provides comprehensive evaluations to test for dyslexia, a one-hour parent consultation with a dyslexia specialist, a 90-minute post-testing conference with a psychologist, and a college prep evaluation for students age 16 and older. Additional options include small group reading and writing instruction using the Orton-Gillingham approach during the school day, training for every level, and a summer day camp with academic mornings that include 1:1 Orton-Gillingham tutoring and play-filled activities each afternoon through Camp Delafield.

• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Camp Delafield is a 5 week summer full day camp.

Dyslexia Institute of Indiana has been helping children with dyslexia and other learning differences improve literacy skills since 1989 and was incorporated in 1989. Camp Delafield was first held in 1990, and by 1992 half of all students who attended Camp Delafield received scholarships and A Reading Place for Adults was launched. In 1995, Betty Wells donated money and Wells Outreach Tutoring Services was launched, enabling year-round services. In 2006, a major grant from the Nina Mason Pulliam Trust enabled the launch of the ReadySetREAD program in schools, which is conducted during the school day. By 2014, Camp Delafield had served over 1,000 students, Wells Outreach Tutoring Services had impacted 2,474 people, educator training had reached nearly 2,500 individuals, and ReadySetREAD had reached nearly 1,290 students. In 2025, Dyslexia Institute of Indiana is 36 years strong, has served over 5,000 students over the past 36 years, has 82 staff members across all Indiana counties, and has raised millions for its programs through donations.

Testing in this program is administered by a certified school psychologist, and the organization is led by CEO Deniese Hofmeister. The mission of the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana is to exist to serve children, adolescents and adults with specific learning disabilities, believing that all people are entitled to fulfill their potential. The organization focuses on serving students, parents, adults, and educators who are impacted by dyslexia and other language learning difficulties, and it offers training for full-time teachers, parents, caregivers, and educators looking to tutor. Camp Delafield focuses on reaching the “whole child” through academics and activities that build and encourage motivation, self-esteem and social skills, and ReadySetREAD is an initiative focused on creating literacy using the Orton-Gillingham approach in small groups during the school day.
