EDGE Afterschool Program and EDGE Summer Camps are part of the Excellence, Discovery, and Growth through Education (EDGE) programs of John Boner Neighborhood Centers, which began as the Near Eastside Multi-Service Center in 1971 and was renamed in 1994. The Director of Youth Services is Tim Nowak. Homework Help/Academic Centers are led by qualified staff members and volunteers who work with youth individually and in small groups, and youth are separated into small groups based on grade level and academic needs. Summer Camp Employment includes roles such as PACT Counselor, Lead Counselor, and Assistant Director, each with specific experience and education requirements, and some positions require candidates to be vaccinated against COVID-19. John Boner Neighborhood Centers states its mission as inspiring neighbors and partners to improve the quality of life on the Near Eastside by providing tools for change and growth.

EDGE programs participate in the Indiana Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers program and partner with neighborhood schools to provide after-school programming for Near Eastside youth. The organization lists the Near Eastside Quality of Life Plan, Art + Design District, and Economic Development Initiatives as community development initiatives and serves residents living in the Near Eastside community. EDGE programs are annually evaluated across many domains, including academic and social/behavioral growth of participants. Families drop off and pick up all campers at the designated camp location, and the summer camp fee covers daily meals and snacks, a camp shirt, weekly field trips, an overnight camp trip, and weekly swimming.
