About
Kids Dance Outreach (KDO) Dance Programs offer dance and arts education programs that include In-School Programs, Advanced Scholarship Programs, Summer Programs, and Dancers with Disabilities Programs. The programs include public performance, interactive workshops, and specific program curriculum design with theme-driven content. All KDO classes are taught by a team of highly trained Teaching Artists and Musicians and always include live music with piano and percussion.
• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Price: Programs are tuition free to participating children and their families.
Kids Dance Outreach (KDO) was founded in 2012. The organization’s mission is to positively impact the lives of all children through joyful dance programs that inspire excellence, instill confidence, encourage teamwork, and applaud persistence. KDO’s mission is guided by a strong commitment to high standards, excellence, and stewardship, and is based on the belief that all children deserve a chance to dance.
KDO In-School Programs reach elementary-age children in public and charter schools throughout Marion County, and KDO works individually with each school, parent, and organization representative to design programming that best suits their needs. Community engagement and partnerships are described as a vital part of the work of KDO, and outreach is described as the anchor of the organization. KDO receives numerous inquiries from school administrators, parents, and other community organizations to bring KDO programs to children.
KDO programs are inclusive for children with physical, cognitive, and developmental disabilities, and the Dancers with Disabilities Programs are specifically designed for children with disabilities to learn and grow in a safe and joyful environment. KDO utilizes unique and accessible movement vocabulary to promote structure, discipline, focus, empathy, and self-confidence, and at the core of KDO’s methodology is cultivating acceptance and celebrating uniqueness while encouraging each child to succeed and build community.
In 2018, KDO assumed the role of the Indiana Associate of the National Dance Institute of New York (ANDI), making it the sole program in Indiana and one of about a dozen in the country in this association. More than 2,000 children participate in KDO each year, and to date, more than 24,000 children have experienced KDO’s dance programs. The Associate Director of Community Engagement and Programming is Dana Vanderburgh.
