• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Price: Programs are tuition free to participating children and their families.
Kids Dance Outreach (KDO) was founded in 2012. The mission of KDO is to positively impact the lives of all children through joyful dance programs that inspire excellence, instill confidence, encourage teamwork, and applaud persistence. All KDO programs are inclusive for children with physical, cognitive, and developmental disabilities, and the Dancers with Disabilities Programs are specifically designed for children with disabilities to learn and grow in a safe and joyful environment. KDO utilizes unique and accessible movement vocabulary to promote structure, discipline, focus, empathy, and self-confidence, with acceptance and celebration of uniqueness at the core of its methodology.
KDO In-School Programs reach elementary-age children in public and charter schools throughout Marion County, and KDO works individually with each school, parent, and organization representative to design programming that suits their needs. Community engagement and partnerships are described by KDO as a vital part of its work, with outreach as the anchor of the organization. KDO is the Indiana Associate of the National Dance Institute of New York (ANDI) and is the sole program in Indiana associated with this organization, and one of about a dozen in the entire country. More than 2,000 children participate in KDO each year, and to date, more than 24,000 children have experienced KDO’s dance programs. The Associate Director of Community Engagement and Programming is Dana Vanderburgh.
