Korea Taekwondo Academy Northwest has provided Taekwondo in Indianapolis for more than 30 years and has served the Indianapolis community since 1994 as the second Korea Taekwondo Academy location in the area. The original Korea Taekwondo Academy opened in 1974, and Grandmaster Donald Cottee began his Taekwondo training under Grandmaster Chul Koo Yoon in 1978. The program offers Taekwondo classes for kids, adults, beginners, and advanced students, as well as Hapkido classes, and also provides special classes just for instructors and Black Belts. Promotion tests for students are conducted by Grand Master Yoon only, and Grand Master Yoon has promoted more than 3,500 students to Black Belt status. Families can sign up for a free trial class.

Grand Master Donald Cottee is the academy owner and Head Instructor and is an 8th Dan Black Belt with over 40 years of competitive experience and instruction. Grand Master Chul Koo Yoon is the founder of Korea Taekwondo Academy, a 9th Degree Black Belt certified by the World Taekwondo Federation, and a former Indiana State Taekwondo President from 1974–1994. Grand Master Yoon was named Coach of the Year by the United States Taekwondo Union in 1990 for leading several outstanding National Champions and World medalists, and he served as Technical Director when Taekwondo was added as a new sport at the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis. Grand Master Cottee was Indiana State Champion, a 1980 national sparring bronze medalist, and the 1980 Indiana AAU Taekwondo athlete of the year, and he has been a member of the 2018 and 2019 US National Poomsae Teams.

The mission of Korea Taekwondo Academy Northwest states that the program focuses on building a strong, supportive environment for kids and families to train. According to the mission, students can learn competitive Taekwondo or focus on self-defense training and work on focus, discipline, humility, courtesy, respect, and confidence, including encouragement for younger students to grow academically and to show good behavior in school and at home.

Korea Taekwondo Academy Northwest provides Taekwondo in Indianapolis and to nearby communities including Carmel, Zionsville, Whitestown, and Brownsburg. One parent review from Marcellus Martin describes a positive experience with Master Cottee and notes that he encouraged and pushed the student to new limits. Another review from Rachelle Swan states that her kids receive positive affirmation from a caring adult while working hard in a challenging sport, and a review from J Howerton notes that their children have attended for about a year, love it, and have gained confidence and learned a lot in a short time.
