The Dance Refinery Dance Program offers dance, gymnastics, tumbling, tap dancing, ballet classes, voice, private voice lessons, acting lessons, adaptive dance, gladiators, and boys only programs. The program includes both recreational and competitive options, as well as private voice and acting lessons for students from toddlers to adults.

The Dance Refinery was established in 1976 and has been refining artistic passions for 50 years. It is described as Indianapolis’s Premier Dance School and Indiana’s largest and most experienced dance and gymnastics facility, and it operates as a 501(c)(3) organization. The facility is a state-of-the-art 25,000 sq. ft. space that includes six dance rooms, a complete gym, a snack bar, a study hall, a vocal studio, and an onsite dance-wear store called The Dance Depot. The program offers an adaptive dance program geared toward people with disabilities and uses donations and financial contributions for tuition scholarships, guest choreography, and future education opportunities for dancers and gymnasts.
The Dance Refinery’s mission states that it wants students to succeed as performers and as individuals, and that its instructors and staff strive to provide a fun, exciting learning environment every day. The leadership team includes Executive Director Lynn Herrick; dance instructors Brianna Amspaugh, Stephanie Anderson, Kevin Carmichael, Breanna Davis, and Alexis Apers; tumbling and gladiator instructors Collin Calhoun and Kevin Carmichael; dance and tumbling instructor Taylor Griffin; and Office Manager Alyssa (Friend) Farris. The Dance Refinery has professional and experienced instructors, including Lynn Herrick, who has over 45 years of teaching and performing experience, and Kevin Carmichael, who was named “Choreographer of the Year” in 2012 and 2013. Other staff credentials include Stephanie Anderson’s Bachelor of Science in Ballet and Indiana Licensed Clinical Social Worker status, Breanna Davis’s Master’s in Dance/Movement Therapy and Registered Dance/Movement Therapist credential, and Alexis Apers’s Bachelor of Arts in Dance Education.
