About
The Youth Services Program is part of Westminster Neighborhood Services’ youth offerings, which have grown to include afterschool programming and a mentoring program. The program seeks to provide a safe, nurturing environment that reinforces and enriches academic skills, teaches social skills, encourages good citizenship, develops leadership traits, and provides activities to encourage a healthy lifestyle for children ages 6–14.
• Ages: 6–14 years old
• Schedule: Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen services are available on Mondays and Thursdays, with the Food Pantry open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the Soup Kitchen open from 10 to 11:45 a.m., and on Tuesdays with the Food Pantry open from 6 to 7 p.m.
In 1982, three Near Eastside neighborhood churches, including Westminster Presbyterian Church, began serving youth during a summer program. Westminster Neighborhood Services states that it provides education support, access to basic needs, and community connections to empower neighbors and strengthen youth and families on the Near Eastside of Indianapolis. Over time, Westminster’s youth program expanded to include afterschool programming and a mentoring program. Today, Westminster partners with more than 20 community organizations to assist with program services, including health and wellness classes and financial literacy, by working with outside organizations that have experience in these areas.
