About

Eager Beaver Summer Day Camp at Island Grove Park takes place in a park that offers swimming, picnicking, swing sets, walking on trails, and fishing. Campers use a large lifeguard-protected sand bottom swimming pool, a charcoal grill equipped picnic area, swing sets, walking trails, fishing areas, and a gazebo during the program.

Island Grove is an 11 acre park surrounded on three sides by the 35 acre Island Grove Pond and is home to the Eager Beaver summer day camp. Island Grove was an important meeting place for abolitionists during the mid-nineteenth century, and Island Grove Park was named to the National Register of Historic Places on March 6, 2002. The Abington Park and Recreation Department, which oversees this camp, is overseen by the Park Department Board of Commissioners, and the Abington Park and Recreation Commission holds monthly public meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 7 pm in the Susan Meier Room in Town Hall. The purpose of the Commission is to set policies and advise the Superintendent on needed parks and recreation programs, oversee the town’s recreation programs and park areas, and plan, acquire, and develop recreation facilities, parks, and open space areas to meet future needs as the town grows.
