North Shore Music Theatre Education Programs

North Shore Music Theatre Education Programs offers Musical Theatre Workshop, where students explore scenes, songs, and choreography from a variety of musicals. It also offers Little Stars, where students read stories, act them out, sing songs, and learn simple choreography, plus improv, acting, and tap and musical theatre dance classes on set weekly schedules.

• Musical Theatre Workshop — 1st and 2nd graders; 3rd graders; 4th graders; 5th and 6th graders · Mondays, 4:00 pm-5:00 pm; 4th graders 5:00 pm-6:00 pm; 5th and 6th graders 6:00 pm-7:00 pm · $200 · Students explore scenes, songs, and choreography from a variety of musicals. This class is full for 1st and 2nd graders; waitlist available by email.
• Beginner Musical Theatre Dance — 5th-12th graders · Mondays, 5:00 pm-6:00 pm · $200 · A beginner dance class focused on jazz and ballet technique and terminology for musical theatre dance styles.
• Acting for Musicals — 7th-12th graders · Mondays, 7:00 pm-9:00 pm · $300 · Explores acting techniques for musical theatre. This class is full; waitlist available by email.
• Improv and Acting — 3rd-5th graders; 6th-8th graders · Saturdays, 9:30 am-10:30 am; 10:30 am-11:30 am · $200 · Through improv and theatre games, students build acting skills, resilience, listening, and collaboration. This class is full for 3rd-5th graders; waitlist available by email.
• Little Stars (Kindergarten) — Kindergarten · Saturdays, 9:00 am-9:30 am · $150 · Students read stories, act them out, sing songs, and learn simple choreography.
• Short Form Improv for the Stage — Wednesdays, 7:00 pm-9:00 pm · $250 · Dedicted to helping students master short-form improv with the goal of performing live on stage.
• Basic/Beginner Tap Dance — Mondays, 6:00 pm-6:45 pm · $130 · Intended for aspiring tappers with limited or no prior experience.
• Beginner Musical Theatre Dance — Mondays, 6:45 pm-7:45 pm · $150 · For beginner dancers with some prior movement experience.
• Advanced Beginner/Intermediate Tap Dance — Mondays, 7:45 pm-8:45 pm · $150 · For tap dancers with prior experience with basic steps.

About the provider

The program has been running since 1955. Its mission says that NSMT believes a modern day actor should have a toolbox filled with true and steadfast techniques and methods used on the stage, and that its conservatory style program concentrates on providing students the necessary tools to become a triple threat and well-rounded actor/actress. NSMT has received Elliot Norton Awards, IRNE Awards, the Rosetta Le Noire Award from Actors' Equity, and the Moss Hart Award. It produced the World Premiere of Memphis in 2003, and the show won four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical.

NSMT classes are subject to changes or cancellations. If necessary, these will be made in advance of the start of class. Discounts offered: Multi-Class 5% off when registering 2+ classes at once; Siblings 10% off second registration for 2 siblings. Discounts cannot be combined and are offered only by phone. Registration opens September 8th.
