Franklin Country Day Camp was opened in 1973 by Gail and Atty. Edward Lembo. The leadership team includes Founder Gail Lembo, Directors Sue and William Rice, and Program Director Sam Cowell. Campers are placed in small groups according to their grade in school, with a 5:1 ratio, and are divided into Jr. Camp I (ages 4–5, entering Kindergarten in the current fall), Jr. Camp II (ages 5–6, completed Kindergarten in the current year), and Regular Camp (ages 6–12, 1st through 6th grades). Head counselors are predominantly school teachers, and some were former Franklin Country Day Camp campers, and a full-time Camp Nurse (R.N.) is on duty each day.

Franklin Country Day Camp states that its primary function is not to entertain children, but to provide a positive environment, program, and leadership out of which children will find their own values, self-worth, and entertainment. The camp states that it aims to provide a positive setting and environment for children to grow and flourish every day during their camp stay and that its ultimate aim is to help children develop into happy, healthy, and confident members of society. The camp complies with the regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and is licensed each year by the Franklin Board of Health. Children bring their own lunch, all lunches are collected in the morning and refrigerated, an immunization record and FCDC Health Form must accompany the camper application, and tuition for all sessions is due by June 1.
