About
Movement City Youth Network is a program of Lawrence CommunityWorks (LCW). It is one of the programs and services that LCW offers as part of its work in the community. In 2024, Movement City marked twenty years since it began.
Lawrence CommunityWorks is a community development corporation that weaves together community planning, organizing, and asset-building efforts with high-quality affordable housing and commercial development to create vibrant neighborhoods and empowered residents. LCW takes an asset-based, holistic, and multi-generational approach to empowering families, and its programs are designed by and for Lawrence residents. LCW describes its approach as Strong People | Strong Place | Strong Systems. LCW and its members have invested $175 million in Lawrence homes, neighborhoods, businesses, and education, and have placed more than 600 people in jobs since 2014. According to LCW, 95% of Movement City youth members graduate from high school. One testimonial describes Lawrence CommunityWorks as having a deep understanding of the community and operating high-quality, responsive programs and projects that are meeting the needs of the community, and says it is viewed as a place of hope, unity, and collective power.
