Rainbow Child Development Center Programs are part of Rainbow Child Development Center, which has served children and families for fifty years and marked its 50th Anniversary in 2022 after opening in 1972. The organization’s mission is to enhance the lives of underserved children and their families by providing quality educational and therapeutic programs and services. The Executive Director is Paula Perrier.

The programs maintain high standards associated with National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation, Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) Standards, and the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Rainbow Child Development Center serves 400 underserved children daily from 6 weeks up to 13 years old and provides high quality early education and care to thousands of low income children. The Center implements innovative STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) in children’s learning experiences, uses on-site gardens for nutrition and healthy lifestyle education, and hosts family-friendly events at no cost.

Rainbow Child Development Center is committed to combating systemic racism, violence, and institutionalized oppression against Black and Brown lives, and it embraces, recognizes, and celebrates the diversity of the children and families in its community. Its work focuses on increasing children’s resiliency, accessibility to new opportunities, and ensuring a sense of belonging based on trust and mutual respect, while modeling pillars of equity, inclusion, empathy, and respect. The Center works toward closing the achievement gap through leading edge programming and best practices in assessment and offers high returns on investment to the City of Worcester.

Rainbow Child Development Center collaborates closely with parents and recognizes the commitment and support of numerous businesses, foundations, agencies, board members, and individuals. It collaborates with community partners and advocates through business and community partnerships, including the UMass Extension Nutrition Education Program (NEP) and the Regional Environmental Council (REC), which have facilitated initiatives that address nutrition, food access, and healthy lifestyles. Webster Five Savings Bank Foundation has financially supported the ten-week interactive preschool summer science program, and Digital Credit Union Foundation has funded Rainbow’s Fine Art Series. Holiday helpers such as Telegram & Gazette Santa, Cutler Associates, Greendale People’s Church, Jewish Health Care Center, St. Mark’s Church, and the Worcester Railers have donated funding and hundreds of new toys and clothing that matched children’s “wish lists,” and programs are funded by Rainbow Child Development Center community partners and businesses.
