Music for the Young Child offers Parent & Child Classes, an Instrument Sampler, Rock Band, Jazz Band, and lessons in piano, ukulele, guitar, violin, cello, and drum circle. Parent & Child is a series of classes that incorporate singing, dozens of instruments, and movement. For Parent & Child classes, the program offers three semesters: Fall, Spring, and Summer.
• Ages: 0–18 years old
• Price: Guest Fee: $17 per child per class. Guest Fee for prior students and siblings of enrolled children: $13 per child per class.
Each family in Parent & Child classes is limited to 2 make-ups and 2 guests per semester. Music for the Young Child was founded in 1991 by Peggy Sachs. Shannon Harmon is the Director of Music for the Young Child and holds an M.M. in Piano Performance from Indiana University. Katie has received certification as a Suzuki violin instructor. Dr. Aneta Otreba received her doctorate degree in cello performance from the University of Maryland, College Park. Elizabeth has a bachelor's in music education from Hope College and a master's in music education from the Eastman School of Music. Bryce has a degree in Cello Performance from the Ithaca College School of Music and was a member of the Teaching Artist Training Institute 2022 LAB cohort and a graduate of the Academy for Impact through Music 2023 Firebird Fellowship. Shannon won the Toledo Symphony Orchestra's Women's League Young Artist Competition. Dr. Otreba won first place in the Baltimore Music Club Competition, the Liberman Competition, and the Peggy Friedman Gordon Music Competition. Music for the Young Child does not follow the closings of any school system for weather-related closings.
