Perfectly Me Hero Camps and Clubs has been serving children since it was founded in 2007. The program was created to help children grow into kind, confident people who understand who they are and how they impact others. Perfectly Me partners with schools, families, and communities to create summer camp and club programs, and HeroClubs are offered in partnership with schools, community organizations, and corporate partners. Programs take place at schools and community locations throughout the Baltimore region.

The leadership team includes Founder Raquel Whiting Gilmer, Program Manager Denise Fortson, Camp Program Developer April Dodge, Lead Camp Coordinator Amarachi Anyadike, Curriculum Developer Samantha Helms, and Quality Assurance Lead and Program Coordinator Imani Brown. Perfectly Me uses the Perfectly Me SuperHero Squad as a storytelling framework, with each superhero representing strengths such as kindness, courage, compassion, resilience, and confidence, called HeroValues. HeroValues are woven throughout programs and brought to life through stories, shared language, and small group experiences, and children practice kindness, empathy, leadership, and responsibility through play, teamwork, reflection, and shared experiences. Club offerings give kids regular chances to build confidence, practice positive self-talk, and strengthen friendship skills through teamwork.

Independent evaluations show measurable growth in key childhood skills, including confidence, empathy, and relationship-building, with a 13-point increase in core social-emotional skills following participation. Evaluations report a 4.8 out of 5 overall program quality, and 100% of families report positive social growth and stronger friendships. Perfectly Me invests in independent evaluation to ensure programs deliver real, measurable impact.

Founder Raquel Gilmer describes herself as passionate about the work as a mom who wants her son to be “a superhero and great human” and refers to the Perfectly Me team and campers as her “superhero crew.” Program Manager Denise Fortson shares that working with Perfectly Me gives her the chance to work with children as they discover their superpowers and use them in positive ways. Camp Program Developer April Dodge says she joined to help girls find their superpowers earlier than she did and to support her own children in being healthy and loving to themselves. Lead Camp Coordinator Amarachi Anyadike says the mission matches a passion for building a better next generation and for helping children understand how their behavior impacts others. Curriculum Developer Samantha Helms describes Perfectly Me as the team every superhero needs and a community that celebrates individuality and encourages each member to shine in a unique way. Quality Assurance Lead and Program Coordinator Imani Brown shares that joining Perfectly Me was a way to learn to be the best version of herself and that empowering campers to make a change also showed her that she has the ability to make a change.
