In the fall of 1996, Brendan Sullivan returned to Washington, DC, and with a single baseball lesson that September on the fields of St. Albans School, The Headfirst Companies were born. Over the years, Summer Camps have expanded from baseball to include other sport camps, Day Camps, STEM Camp, Sprouting Scientists, and Innovators, Inc. For 30 years, Headfirst Summer Camps has been the trusted choice for families across Washington, DC, Bethesda, and Northern Virginia. The Headfirst Companies have flourished into a national organization that operates three divisions and includes twenty-five full-time and 700 seasonal team members. Brendan Sullivan is the founder of The Headfirst Companies. With the first pitch, his mission was simple then and remains the same today: To inspire the personal best in high potential kids.
The Headfirst Companies operate Professional Camps in partnership with four Major League Baseball teams, one Major League Soccer team, and one National Football League team. Summer 2026 Registration is open, and the program offers four convenient locations in the Washington DC area. Families have access to a carpool line for before and after care, flexibility to change camp topics once registered, daily swimming, photo updates for parents, and the ability to group campers with their friends. The organization states that it lives to elevate its camps as a platform to teach kids about life and open up the possibilities for their future.
Parent feedback notes great counselors who are flexible to a child’s needs, a carpool line for before and after care, flexibility to change camp topics after registration, and noticeable skill growth in just two weeks. Another parent describes the camp and counselors as phenomenal, mentions this is their family’s second year, and shares that one child learned the backstroke in less than one week, with counselors described as caring, kind, and very well organized. Other parents report that their kids have loved the camp, appreciate the energy at carpool, value swimming every day and photo updates, and like that campers have been grouped with their friends. One parent shares that their camper previously did not like going to summer camp, but after a week at Headfirst, the camper asked to return the next week, and the parent appreciates the communication and photos that keep them up to date on the day.
