The Laurel Athletic League was established in 1955 and in 1964 changed its name to the Laurel Boys and Girls Club (LBGC). In 1965, the membership grew to 400 youth participants. In 1972, soccer was added as a fall sport, and in 1974, 1975, and 1976, boxing, spring soccer, and wrestling were added. The LBGC was established by local citizens with a common interest in serving the youth of the community. Currently, the LBGC serves over 3500 youths and is one of the largest boys and girls clubs in the state of Maryland. In 2024, a new LBGC Board of Directors (BOD) was established, with a focus on better financial transparency and accountability, improved organizational communications, improved community relationships, full resource support for all LBGC sports and activities, and higher quality youth programming. The new LBGC BOD is improving community relationships.
