Camp Excellent is operated by Excellent Productions, Inc., a non-profit arts organization that focuses on positive expression in music, dance, theater, and ministry that reflect faith and culture in today's world. Excellent Productions was established to promote arts traditions in America by cultivating artistic excellence, encouraging new initiatives, and supporting emerging artists through programs in Maryland. The organization began with a Young Adult Ministry at Concord Baptist in 2001, presented its first musical stage play on February 22, 2002, premiered “The Music In My Soul” in February 2004, and achieved 501(c)(3) status in May 2005.

The camp’s leadership team includes Executive Director Ramona Jones-McClain, Art Director Russell McClain Jr., Artistic Director Aaron Androh, Music Director Kalifa Maddox, Dance Director Amya Jones, and Business Director Renaya Lekwuwa. Excellent Productions has been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts as a regional theatrical group and is a regional member of the Screen Actors Guild and the Baltimore Theater Alliance. The organization has launched the careers of members who now work Off-Broadway, in the Atlanta music industry, in Hollywood, and in the local entertainment scene, and has received attention from the Baltimore Office of Promotions and the Arts and the Maryland State Arts Council.

Families are asked to provide specific supplies: for music, a white T-shirt and text that will be provided; for dance, dance shoes, a hand towel, and a water bottle; for art, small paper towels, a box of colored pencils, and a pack of paint brushes; and for theater, a black T-shirt, black leggings, and text that will be provided. The program notes that additional costs may vary based on the final field trip schedule, and it offers the option to register for all six weeks and pay over time. Camp Excellent also accepts donations to sponsor a child, with donations used as tuition to cover the cost for a child who wants to attend.
