Gym America offers gymnastics classes, Preschool Playtime open gym, instructional open gym, and camp enrichment activities in a state-of-the-art gymnastics facility. Instructional classes are for children 5 years old and up, with Preschool Playtime open gym for children ages 18 months to 4 years old with parent supervision. Instructional Open Gym is for children ages 5 to 10 years old, and camps are open to school-age children and preschoolers.

Gym America was established in 1979 by Claudia and Ed Kretschmer and has been in business for over 40 years, with over 43 years of providing gymnastics instruction. The program is a member of USA Gymnastics and the Elite Coaches Association and has been voted #1 in Washtenaw County for gymnastics. Gym America coaches Compulsory, Xcel, and Optional levels and has had National level athletes for over 30 years who have competed at USA Championships. The program has produced over 38 college athletes and many collegiate team captains and scholar athletes.
The leadership team includes Claudia Kretschmer (Owner and Director of Gym America and coach of all levels of competitive team), Ed Kretschmer (Owner/Director), Heather Helms (General Manager and Wolverine + Girl Power Meet Director), Kurtis Rosen (Boys Team Director and Boys Instructional Program Director), Kayla Mangas (Preteam Program Director and Compulsory Team Coach), Sarah Strzalkowski (Girls Instructional Program Director and Compulsory Team Coach), Jamie Krol (Preschool Program Director, Preschool Coach, Summer Camp Director, Preschool Team Lead, Camp Director, and Special Needs Coordinator), Shauna MacMillian (Team Coach and Educational Director), Kim Tanana (Wolverine Classic & Girl Power Meet Director), Grace Dishaw (Instructional Team Lead, Montessori Preschool Teacher, and Pre-Team Coach), Cenovia Lillie (Office Manager), and Amber Hauck (Pre-Team Director and Xcel & Pre-Team Coach). Every instructor at Gym America goes through a training program, and all staff members are USAG safety certified, with safety certification programs and background checks in place.
Gym America’s mission is to play a constructive role in the development of healthy, confident, disciplined, and responsible children and to develop each individual’s gymnastics potential in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. The program states that it welcomes children of all ages and abilities and that students are instructed on all gymnastics events during staff-supervised playtime and open gyms. Gym America’s competitive team program uses the motto “Gymnastics Today. Character for Life,” and the program describes itself as a positive and welcoming environment for all levels of gymnastics. The facility is described as a state-of-the-art gymnastics facility serving the community. Parents may start their children at Gym America at any time.
