About
Bemis Farms Preschool and Childcare gives children chances to plant, nurture, and water different kinds of plants and then watch a variety of plant life as it grows. The program uses an outdoor learning environment where children get hands-on experience with nature, including raised garden beds, a flower and fairy garden, nature trails, and exceptionally large and age-appropriate playgrounds.
• Ages: 0–12 years old
Bemis Farms Preschool and Childcare was established in 1994 and is described as a family run business. It is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The program is known as a Schoolyard Habitat, with grounds that include gardens, many trees, and fields planted by a local farmer with a rotating crop of corn and soybeans. Its stated mission is to provide a loving, caring environment that promotes and encourages all aspects of learning, creativity and sound character building. Bemis Farms won the 2007 Saline Business Enterprise Award. The main site was expanded in 2003 by adding care in the Lincoln Consolidated School District, offering preschool and extended care inside Lincoln Consolidated Schools at Model Elementary (Preschool), Bishop Elementary (Extended Care), and Childs Elementary (Extended Care). The leadership team includes founder Priscilla King, who is described as a Master Gardener and a local retired schoolteacher, along with Andrew and Tammie, who took over full operation of Bemis Farms, and directors Kristine Lindemulder (Saline Location) and Ashley Elswick (Lincoln Location). The program serves families seeking child care, daycare, preschool, before and after school care, or summer camp in the Saline, Ann Arbor, Milan, Ypsilanti, or surrounding areas.
