About
Youth Enrichment League (YEL!) After-School Programs and Camps offers activities such as coding, building robots, designing video games, mastering chess, expressing themselves through art, fencing, robotics, Brick Builders, Project Runway, basketball, woodworking, and Pre-K Lego. YEL afterschool programs provide a diverse range of enrichment classes that include robotics, creative arts, sports, and STEM subjects, and YEL Coding Classes for Kids use platforms like Scratch and Micro:Bit. YEL Coding Classes for Kids feature the trademarked Teach It! Practice It! Play It! methodology, and YEL Coding Instructors use custom designed lesson plans prepared for each class of students.
• Ages: 7–13 years old
• Schedule: YEL Coding Classes for Kids have eight, six-week sessions of non-repeating curriculum, and Summer Coding Camps are day camps (usually 9am–noon, or 1–4pm).
The mission of Youth Enrichment League (YEL!) is to engage youth to {Think} • {Learn} • {Play Well}. YEL Coding Classes for Kids work for students in second grade all the way through middle school, and all coding sessions, unless marked otherwise, are for all levels of coders. YEL Coding classes leverage the platform of Scratch for beginning to intermediate grade school coders and Micro:Bit for upper grade school and middle school coders; Scratch is a kid friendly and safe online platform that uses a drag-and-drop icon based method, and Micro:Bit is a mini computer interface that requires line code to work. Each coding student receives their own username and password, and students are given a flash drive to save their code and bring it home at the end of the session, with YEL Coding Instructors often reserving the final 5–10 minutes of class for students to showcase what they developed that day. Summer Coding Camps are day camps in a day camp setting, and students of all levels can sign up for Summer Coding Camps.
YEL offers after school classes at the end of the school day and also offers summer camps in the community or near families, bringing instructors to locations within the community to teach coding programs in a day camp setting. The team of dedicated and experienced instructors is committed to creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere that nurtures each child’s unique abilities, and the instructors are described as passionate about education and dedicated to nurturing each child’s potential. In 2024, YEL reported a 4.67 out of 5.00 rating on 588 parent surveys. YEL also offers franchise opportunities across the United States and provides comprehensive training, ongoing support, and a proven business model for franchisees.
Parent feedback includes comments such as, “My son loved this class and was so excited and proud about his game that he worked on it at home between classes. I would definitely sign him up for a next level class,” from a parent in Waunakee, WI, and “She said, ‘it was awesome!’” from a parent in Delano, MN. Other parents reported that their children called it “the best camp he has ever done,” that teachers were “very calm and so kind,” that children “worked on building new games at home” and asked to take the class again, and that a student “was very proud of what she learned and can’t wait to play online with other Scratch creators.” One parent from Lakeville, MN stated, “My son loves this class and the teacher. Says he really knows his stuff!”
