Youth Enrichment League (YEL!) After-School Camps and Classes offers activities such as coding, robotics, chess, art, basketball, woodworking, Pre-K Lego, Brick Builder creations, and Project Runway fashions. In coding classes and camps, students work on building new games, creating a sprite and a backdrop, adding music, making the Micro:Bit talk, designing video games, and playing speed test games, and some sessions include a dance party. The program also includes stories and video games as part of its activities.

• Schedule: YEL Coding Classes for Kids have eight, six-week sessions of classes, and Summer Coding Camps are day camps usually held 9am–noon or 1–4pm.
The program’s mission is: “To engage youth to {Think} • {Learn} • {Play Well}.” YEL Coding Classes for Kids work for students in second grade all the way through middle school and use Scratch for beginning to intermediate grade school coders and Micro:Bit for upper grade school and middle school coders. Scratch is described as a kid friendly and safe online platform that uses a drag-and-drop icon based method, and Micro:Bit is described as a mini computer interface that requires line code to work.
Youth Enrichment League uses a trademarked Teach It! Practice It! Play It! methodology. In the Teach It! portion, coding instructors teach a different coding concept each class. In the Practice It! portion, students are asked to incorporate the new concept into their coding project. In the Play It! portion, time is reserved every day for students to use what they have learned, discover new things, and come up with their own unique projects. Instructors often reserve the final 5–10 minutes of class for Show and Tell so students can showcase what they developed that day.
Each coding student receives their own username and password and is given a flash drive to save their code and bring it home at the end of the session. All coding sessions, unless marked otherwise, are for all levels of coders. The program offers nearly 60 hours of robotics curriculum in all varieties and five years of non-repeating projects and curriculum for chess. Programs are described as providing a diverse range of enrichment classes that cater to children’s individual interests and passions.
The team of dedicated and experienced instructors is committed to creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere, and the instructors are described as passionate about education and dedicated to nurturing each child’s potential. Dynamic instructors stay engaged with students throughout class to make sure they aren’t frustrated or overwhelmed with their projects. Educational after-school camps are currently available in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota, and franchise opportunities exist across the United States for individuals to open their own educational after-school camp.
Parent feedback includes comments such as a child being “so excited and proud about his game” and working on it at home between classes, and another child saying the class “was awesome!” One parent reported that their child said this was “the best camp he has ever done” and that he “LOVED it” and described the teacher as “very calm and so kind.” Other parents shared that their children continued building new games at home, were sad when coding classes were over, and were proud of what they learned.
