Dancin’ Off Broadway Dance Classes offers instruction in tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, lyrical, musical theatre, and acro. Classes include both general recreation options and Competition Prep recreation classes that are specifically geared towards dancers interested in pursuing competitive dance in the future.

• Schedule: Class options include Alexandria Monday 4:30 for ages 3–4; Alexandria Monday 5:30 for ages 5–7 Competition Prep; Alexandria Tuesday 5:15 and 5:30 for ages 3–4; Alexandria Tuesday 5:15 for ages 5–6; Alexandria Tuesday 6:15 for ages 5–7 Competition Prep; Alexandria Tuesday 6:30 for ages 8+ Competition Prep; Alexandria Wednesday 4:30 for ages 5–7 Competition Prep; and Alexandria Wednesday 5:15 and 5:30 for ages 5–6 and 3–4.
For over 35 years, Dancin’ Off Broadway has been a dance studio in the Alexandria and Sauk Centre area, founded in 1988 by Jackie Payne-Noetzelman and later taken over in 2015 by Mariya (Lawinger) Kemper and the Lawinger family. The program offers recreation classes for dancers ages 3 and older in a non-competitive environment and a competitive division for dancers seeking a more rigorous dance experience. Dancin’ Off Broadway provides dance instruction for over 350 students from more than 30 surrounding communities and holds two professional recitals and a showcase each year, with its competitive teams active regionally and nationally.
Dancin’ Off Broadway states that it values hard work, determination, loyalty, teamwork, accountability, creativity, building confidence, and fun, and that it aims to give dancers life skills they can use after their studio journey. The studio is led by Executive Director and Owner Mariya Kemper, Administrative Director and Owner Cheryl Lawinger, Creative Director Bria Lawinger, Technical Director and Owner Alan Lawinger, Assistant Creative Directors Paige Lawinger, Lexi Lawinger, Teryl Kindel, and Jackson Grove, Assistant Technical Director Wes Kemper, Administrative Assistants Amanda Ritter and Sarah Kampsen, and a team of instructors and assistant instructors including Hannah Berg, Emily Berger, Nichole Boyden, Grace Loken, Aubrey Kindel, Kierra Ritter, Izzy Kampsen, Kate Boyden, Sydney Keogh, Amelia Schafer, Alexa DeGier, Eleigh Meier, Finley Paulsen, Olivia Schafer, Rylin Converse, and Piper Newman. The program notes that its instructors are qualified and have years of experience, and that in recent years Mariya, along with Alan and Cheryl, has expanded class options and emphasized giving back to the communities that support the studio.
One competition team dancer, Dasha Hohn, shares that she has made many memories at Dancin’ Off Broadway, enjoys coming to the studio, and feels supported by kind teachers and peers. A parent, Rachel Golberg, shares that her daughter Isla, who has a disability, was welcomed at Dancin’ Off Broadway and that dance has become Isla’s favorite activity.
