About
Northland School of Dance offers classes in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, Acro, and Pointe, along with recreational and pre-competition dance classes, competitive companies, and technique classes. The program also includes a professional ballet program, preschool dance classes, boys-only dance classes, adult dance classes, a Tiny Dancers program for ages 2–5, a special needs dance program called Precious Gems, and dance camp options. Northland also offers a new program open to dancers in grades 9–12 that complements studio and/or dance team participation, with options to complete 1–2 genres as a solo, duet, or trio.

Northland School of Dance has been Champlin's dance home since 1994 and has been nurturing confidence, creativity, and friendships for over 30 years. The studio is owned by Ashley Rosstedt and Barb Larson and has a staff of 25+ experienced instructors who are described as experienced and passionate, bringing decades of experience and national competition awards. The facilities include state-of-the-art, well-equipped studios with professional-grade sprung floors, safe, professional-grade flooring, and ample space for classes and rehearsals, along with limited and small class sizes and ample staff to meet each student’s needs.
Northland’s mission statement is that it does not just teach technique but builds confidence, friendships, and memories that last a lifetime. The program includes competition programs from pre-comp through elite, regularly scheduled recitals, competitions, and community performances, as well as social events and performances. It also offers workshops, guest teacher sessions, and masterclasses with renowned dancers and choreographers, and focuses on strong ballet technique, showmanship, good sportsmanship, and holistic development including discipline, resilience, and a strong work ethic. The new program for grades 9–12 is limited to a maximum of two nights per week, requires two technique classes (Leap & Turn and Ballet), and offers unlimited technique, conventions, and additional opportunities.
Northland highlights an inclusive and supportive environment where every student feels welcome regardless of skill level or background, a family-first culture, and a family-oriented approach with transparent communication with parents and regular updates on each child’s progress. The studio offers a free, no-pressure trial class. It is proudly serving dancers from Champlin, Anoka, Coon Rapids, Brooklyn Park, Osseo, Ramsey, Maple Grove, Dayton, Rogers, and surrounding communities.
Northland School of Dance holds a 4.9★ Google Rating, and its instructors and dancers have continually received regional and national awards for choreography and routine accomplishment, with nationally awarded choreographers and students achieving success in competitions, securing scholarships, and pursuing professional dance careers. Parent feedback includes comments such as “Northland is a second home for our family. The instructors are amazing!” and notes about children’s confidence increasing, a strong family atmosphere, and boys-only classes helping hesitant dancers feel at home.
