About

SoWashCo Community Education Youth Activities offers a wide range of options including swimming lessons, specialty swimming classes, fitness and recreational swimming, gymnastics classes, TGA Golf & Pickleball Summer Camp, golf, pickleball, horsemanship workshops and camps, AI Python Coding Lab, beginner volleyball camp, building activities through Let’s Build It!, Ninja Summer Camp, soccer camps, tennis camps, teen driver’s education, and activities such as bingo, bowling, dances, and arts and crafts. Swimming lessons support youth with a wide range of skill levels, and swimming and water safety are described as skills that children will use for life. Gymnastics classes are offered for girls and boys ages 18 months–18 years old.

• Schedule: TGA Golf & Pickleball Summer Camp and the Horsemanship Workshop for Teens are offered in summer sessions, and Parenting Skills for Immigrant Families meets in three Monday evening sessions; out-of-school time care is available before and after school and all day on school release days, including winter, spring and summer breaks.
• Price: Parenting Skills for Immigrant Families is $59 for 3 sessions, and the Horsemanship Workshop for Teens is $100 for 1 session.

TGA Golf & Pickleball Summer Camp includes expert coaching, small group instruction with an 8:1 student-to-coach ratio, and provides all equipment at no extra cost. The Horsemanship Workshop for Teens focuses on safe handling, groundwork and grooming, and building confidence and leadership skills through clear communication with horses, and no experience is necessary. Spark Equestrian’s day camps at Serenity Farm teach kids the basics of horse care, grooming, and riding.

Elementary and middle school athletic programs are supervised and led by certified coaches, licensed teachers or knowledgeable staff, and all of Safeway’s instructors for teen driver’s education are licensed by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. Kids Club (grades K–3) and Upgrade (grades 4–5) are the school district school-age child care programs, open to all South Washington County Schools students and provided at all elementary school sites throughout the district, with out-of-school time care available before and after school and on school release days. Activities and classes are offered at the child’s school, partner locations within the community, and online.

SoWashCo Community Education offers teen driver’s education in partnership with Safeway Driving School, and services such as bingo, bowling, dances, and arts and crafts are provided through the Community Bridge Consortium. SoWashCo Community Education serves all or parts of the communities of Afton, Cottage Grove, Newport, St. Paul Park, Woodbury, as well as Denmark and Grey Cloud Island Townships. The program states that it is proud to serve the community by providing lifelong learning for all and is committed to collaboration, continuous improvement, equity, integrity and relationships, and it offers scholarships and fee assistance to those who qualify.

The leadership and coordination team for SoWashCo Community Education includes roles such as Youth Programs Coordinator, Youth Athletics Coordinator, Community Education Aquatics Supervisor, Adult and alternative programs supervisor, Adult Education Consortium Program Specialist, Early Childhood Family Education Teacher, Kids Club Coordinator, Out of School Time Manager, and various coordinators, specialists, and administrative assistants.
