About

SoWashCo Community Education Youth Activities offers a wide range of options including enrichment classes, athletics, Kids Club, swimming lessons, chess club, theater cabaret camps, sports camps, cake decorating, sewing, yoga, and language classes such as Futura Spanish. The program also includes ACT prep seminars and courses, driver education (online), ninja classes, parent-child ninja classes, and activities such as Happy Feet Soccer, Skyhawks sports camps, DASH Sports camps, and Girls Explore Science Club. Some activities, such as TGA Single Day Camps - Golf/Tennis, provide all necessary equipment.

SoWashCo Community Education Youth Activities includes Kids Club for grades K–3 and Upgrade for grades 4–5 as the school district’s school-age child care program, offered at all elementary school sites throughout the district. Out-of-School Time care is available before and after school and all day on school release days, including winter, spring and summer breaks. Activities and classes are offered at children’s schools, partner locations within the community, and online.

Elementary and middle school athletic programs are supervised and led by certified coaches, licensed teachers or knowledgeable staff, and these athletic programs emphasize skill development, participation, teamwork, and respect for others. SoWashCo Schools Community Education offers swimming lessons to support youth with a wide range of skill levels, and states that swimming and water safety is a skill that children will use for life. For TGA Single Day Camps - Golf/Tennis, all equipment is provided.

The SoWashCo Community Education leadership team for youth and related programs includes Anne Carlson (Youth Programs Coordinator), Todd Feustel (Youth Athletics Coordinator), Amy Brengman (Out of School Time Manager), Brooke Dahlin and Jillian Draeger (Out of School Time Site Support Specialists), Jennifer Fenton Herlick (Kids Club Coordinator), and Lindsey Hansen (Out of School Time Site Support Specialist), along with additional administrative and program support staff. SoWashCo Community Education states that it is proud to serve the community by providing lifelong learning for all and notes a commitment to collaboration, continuous improvement, equity, integrity and relationships.

The program serves all or parts of the communities of Afton, Cottage Grove, Newport, St. Paul Park, Woodbury, as well as Denmark and Grey Cloud Island Townships, with services also provided through the Community Bridge Consortium. Activities and classes are located in most elementary schools, Central Park, and the District Program Center, and are also available online. The program states that it strives to make classes and activities accessible to all participants by offering scholarships and fee assistance to those who qualify and invites families to learn more about accommodations for youth with special needs through its “Learning for All” information.

SoWashCo Community Education and related programs are listed for nomination in Woodbury Magazine’s “Best of Woodbury ’26” in categories including “Best Place for Family Activities” (SoWashCo Community Education), “Best Language Immersion Program or School” (Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion), and “Best Preschool Program” (SoWashCo Schools Early Learning). Youth Community Education is described as playing a key role in supporting youth through focused programs and opportunities and providing activities and learning opportunities for children year-round, after school, in the evenings and on weekends.
