About

Edina Community Education Summer Enrichment offers over 500 camps and classes for children and teens, with programming described as creative, experiential, and always evolving. Lunch Bunch and MS Sandwich Society are available as fun ways for friends in grades K–5 and grades 6–8 to bridge the gap between morning camps and afternoon camps, and campers are picked up from their morning camps and brought to their afternoon camps by Community Ed Enrichment Rec Leaders. All participants in day camps should expect to spend breaktime outdoors, and indoor spaces have been reserved in case of inclement weather.

• Ages: 2–17 years old
• Schedule: Lunch Bunch and MS Sandwich Society run from 12:00–1:00 p.m. with weekly registration; office hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

The program follows guidance from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the American Lung Association when making decisions about programming in relation to the Heat Index and Air Quality Index. Families are asked to send a water bottle labeled with the child’s name and contact number, a nut-free snack, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen already applied; participants should pack a sack lunch, and there is no access to fridges or coolers to store bagged lunches. If a child is registered for Lunch Bunch or MS Sandwich Society, the program specifies that the child should bring a sack lunch.

Edina Community Education Summer Enrichment states that its programming is responsive to community needs and created in collaboration with local input, and that it is designed to foster growth and deepen bonds between people in the community. The mission statement is: “We build learning, growth, and connection opportunities that are OF our community, BY our community, and FOR our community.” The program describes Community Education as a concept that views education as a lifelong process, with shared responsibility among individuals, businesses, and public and private agencies, and emphasizes that citizens have a right and responsibility to be involved in determining community needs, identifying community resources, and linking those needs and resources to improve their community. It also states that Community Education results in a responsive education system and an improved learning climate in the schools, efficient and cost-effective ways of delivering education and community services, broad-based community support for schools and other community agencies, an emphasis on special populations such as at-risk youth and minorities, and collective action among educational and community agencies to address quality of life issues.

The program notes that it partners with local businesses and organizations to better serve community needs, and that it is an entry point to and an extension of Edina Public Schools, describing itself as a vibrant hub that connects people, places, and opportunities in Edina. The listed leadership team includes Hannah Christianson (952-848-4072), Tyler Morris, and Tom Gatyas.
