About
North East United Soccer Club Youth Programs include competitive soccer, travel soccer, and recreational soccer, with teams participating in leagues and tournaments. Players may take part in Twin Cities Soccer League (TCSL) Final Four and TCSL Jamborees, as well as an indoor league. Teams also have the option to do fundraising to pay for additional tournaments.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: The competitive soccer year runs from the end of July to the end of July the following year, with fall, winter indoor, and spring/summer seasons.
North East United Soccer Club was established in 1971. In 1974 the Maplewood Parks and Recreation Department contacted Fred Abbott to assist with developing a youth soccer program, and in 1977 the Northeast Soccer Association (NESA) was formed by Fred Abbott, Allan Eastwood and Gil Leiter, with Fred Abbott serving as NESA's first president. After 38 years, the NESA Board decided to rebrand as North East United Soccer Club in 2015. The club is described as a non-profit, community-based club and is volunteer-run with a few part-time staff and a Board of Directors.
The club’s stated goal is to foster a safe, fun and educational experience for all youth in the program and it is committed to excellence in sportsmanship, leadership and teamwork on and off the pitch, encouraging social, civic and educational skills that transcend the soccer field. The renewed club notes a greater emphasis on licensed coaches, better practices, and better games.
Fall season runs from mid-August through early October, with a commitment of 2–3 practices a week; once games start, there are typically fewer practices if there are games. Fall season consists of approximately 6 games, typically held on Saturdays or Sundays, but possibly during weekday evenings. Winter indoor training starts in early November and runs through early April, with training sessions held twice per week and potentially at multiple locations. For Year Round ages 9U–15U, the spring and summer season runs from mid-April through mid-July, with 2–3 practices per week and approximately 10 league games, typically held on weekday evenings. For 16U–19U Winter to Summer, winter indoor training starts mid-November and runs through early April, and the spring and summer season runs from mid-April through early July.
Uniform kits are custom made for North East United Soccer Club and are used for two full seasons. Each team has one guaranteed tournament hosted by North East United Soccer Club, and if a team qualifies for the Twin Cities Soccer League (TCSL) Final Four or Jamborees, those events are paid for by the club. Teams have the opportunity to fundraise money to pay for additional tournaments. Registration for competitive soccer tryouts is free, and when registering for North East United soccer, families are also committing to volunteer hours for the North East United tournament per player registered.
It is required to submit a copy of the player's birth certificate or passport when registering. Players receive an email for ordering, at an additional cost, a uniform kit that includes home, away, and practice jerseys, shorts, and socks. Kits need to be ordered right away if playing in the fall, and for the Winter/Spring+Summer option there are multiple opportunities to order uniforms, with email notifications sent.
