About
Mothers Tutoring Academy offers tutoring services in a wide variety of subjects, including math, science, and reading. The program provides one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions, along with test reviews, study skills support, consultations, assessment testing, academic coaching, advancement and test prep, homework completion support, and classroom assignment coaching.
• Ages: 4–18 years old
• Schedule: After-school options on weekdays and Saturdays, with afternoon and early evening hours
Since the 2010s, Mothers Tutoring Academy has been helping students earn better grades and has focused on pushing its members to rise from adversity and use its tools for success to navigate the world around them. It is a non-profit after-school institution, co-educational, and inclusive for all races and ethnicities, and it is described as a fast expanding community-based organization in Minnesota. The main goal of the program is to promote growth in the next generation of leaders, activists, and entrepreneurs.
Tutors at Mothers Tutoring Academy have extensive experience in math and science subjects and are recruited to work one-on-one with students, coach students in the completion of homework, and support classroom assignments. The program states that its tutoring programs are designed to help each student find his or her own path to post-high school success, offers tutoring support for almost every middle and high school subject, and personally selects tutors to match each child’s needs. It currently offers tutoring services for mixed grade levels, with a plan in the future to mainly accept students in pre-K and elementary grade levels, with a focus on building students from the base up in their early instructional childhood years and increasing math, science, and reading proficiency in an environment that also encourages the development of social skills, confidence, and enthusiasm for learning.
Mothers Tutoring Academy describes itself as “A Family Of Learning,” “Achieving Excellence Together,” and “A Great Place to Accelerate Learning.” It is founded on the tenets of school bylaws of the Minnesota State and notes that the majority of its student body is expected to consist of East African recent immigrants. The project plans to serve as an outreach site for parents and the community as an information center, work to increase parent involvement at the tutoring center, and start early in reaching out to families and the community at large. It also plans to provide empowerment strategies for individual families and entire communities, offer literacy training to parents, and establish strong links between after-school tutoring activities, schools, communities, and other adult learning centers.
