The Art MMA offers mixed martial arts (MMA) style classes that include self-defense, kickboxing, forms, martial arts tactics, and opportunities to run obstacles. The program also offers a Karate White Belt class, a BJJ class, and a Kickboxing class, along with specialized seminars. A free introductory class is available, and a Free Intro Trial/Participation Waiver is offered, with no start-up or contract fees and no contracts required.

• Schedule: Open 6 days a week.
The Art MMA is part of The Art Martial Arts dojo, which offers Karate and martial arts classes. The program offers martial arts classes for the community and has kids and adults programs, with smaller class sizes and more personal coaching in a beginner-friendly environment. Masks are required, students can join virtually if needed, auto payment is required with their system, and families are reminded to bring a water bottle.
The Art MMA was founded in 2012 by Mr. Jake and his wife, Ms. Natalia. Instructor Jake Erling is a 5th Degree Black Belt with over 40 years of experience in martial arts. Instructor Mariela Ajpop is a 3rd Degree Black Belt who has been training in martial arts under Mr. Jake and The Art MMA for 17 years and is currently pursuing her law degree in immigration law.
The program’s stated mission is to be more than an average martial arts school and to be built on community, where people get to know their neighbors, feel supported, and belong. The mission also states that physical or mental diagnoses should never define limits, and that participants come together to train, grow, and turn challenges into possibilities. The founders’ stated goal was to create a space that combines physical fitness and discipline with a supportive, welcoming community where everyone can grow, and the mission states that they aim to inspire, support, and build a stronger community for years to come. The Art MMA serves Maplewood, St. Paul, Roseville, North St. Paul and beyond, and its work has inspired students and families to give back by supporting those in need and contributing to the community through service and generosity.
