About
Forte's American Karate offers training in karate, martial arts, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The program includes high energy, enthusiastic classes that keep students of different ages excited and engaged, with a focus on self-improvement mentally, physically, and emotionally.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Class options Monday–Friday afternoons and evenings, plus Saturday morning classes
Forte's American Karate has been in business for over 20 years, with a founder who has over 30 years of experience in the karate industry and 40 years of experience as a student, competitor, and instructor. The program includes options for Super Kids in pre-K and kindergarten, kids ages 5–11, teens ages 12–17, and adults 18 and older. Its mission states that karate is viewed as a way of life that strengthens the body, mind, and spirit, teaches patience, perseverance, and humility, and emphasizes continuous self-improvement and determination. The mission also states a belief that martial arts can change lives and a commitment to helping students reach their full potential through safe, effective martial arts training, along with helping the community and those in need through volunteer events and support of other organizations.
The leadership team includes Master Forte (Dominic Forte, a 7th Degree Black Belt and Master Karate Instructor who founded Forte’s American Karate), Master Chapin (Brad Chapin, a 6th Degree Black Belt and Master Karate Instructor who runs the Wyoming location), and Master Hallberg (Nathanael Hallberg, a fifth degree Black Belt and Head Instructor at the White Bear Lake location). Dominic Forte is a member of the professional karate team TEAM AKA and is a NASKA World Champion, and he was trained by Kickboxing World Champion Grand Master Gordon Franks and Martial Arts Legend Grand Master Pat Worley. Brad Chapin is a 2-time NASKA World Champion in two separate sparring weight classes. The program notes that students who once trained there have become owners, continuing the tradition, and that the Head Instructor at White Bear Lake started in the Super Kids program at two years old. It also notes that Master Hallberg began learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu after reaching fifth degree Black Belt to broaden his martial arts knowledge.
The program describes itself as more than just a karate school and refers to itself as a family, with classes that are engaging, empowering, and rooted in tradition, blending time-tested techniques with a modern, welcoming approach. Its philosophy emphasizes respect, perseverance, and the joy of learning, and it states a focus on self-improvement mentally, physically, and emotionally, as well as helping the community and those in need through volunteer events and support of organizations doing good for people around the world.
Parent feedback includes comments that “Master Chapin does a great job teaching kids” and that a daughter “loves coming to karate,” with one parent noting that Master Chapin is “very patient with the kids” and that their daughter has gained confidence, discipline, and determination since starting. Another parent reports that their son has been attending for four months and describes the experience as “amazing for him,” praising Master Hallberg’s patience and the way he challenges their child each week, and mentioning that the curriculum is fun and engaging with flexibility throughout the week for busy families. Other comments describe instructors as wonderful, classes as flexible to match a busy schedule, and the school as “terrific,” with instructors described as strong role models who captivate kids of all ages and emphasize respect, commitment, service, and hard work, along with fun events throughout the year.
